Premiers to focus on energy costs, health care at Halifax meeting of leaders

The effect of carbon pricing measures on the rising cost of living across Canada is slated to take centre stage at this week’s meeting of the country’s premiers and territorial leaders in Halifax. That focus comes after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced last month a three-year pause on carbon pricing for home fuel oil, along with the expansion of a grant program to help some lower-income Canadians cover the cost of installing heat pumps. The relief is applicable only to the 10 jurisdictions where federal fuel charges apply, with British Columbia, Quebec and the Northwest Territories excluded because they collect their own fuel tax.Speaking from Halifax ahead of the meetings, British Columbia Premier David Eby said such unequal distribution of cost relief is unfair.“I don’t begrudge Atlantic Canadians the ability to get off home heating oil and not to have to endure those huge bills that come when the fuel truck shows up,” Eby said at a news conferen...Taysom Hill's TDs receiving and passing, Paulson Adebo's takeaways lift Saints past Bears 24-17

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Taysom Hill caught a touchdown pass and threw for another, Paulson Adebo intercepted two passes and also forced a fumble that he recovered, and the New Orleans Saints beat the Chicago Bears 24-17 on Sunday. The Saints (5-4) forced five turnovers, intercepting rookie QB Tyson Bagent three times and recovering two fumbles. Those plays tipped the balance of a game in which the undrafted Bagent and the Bears (2-7) often had the Saints' defense off balance, outgaining New Orleans 368-301 in total yards and possessing the ball for just more than half the game. The final turnover — a fumble caused by Demario Davis' sack and recovered by fellow linebacker Pete Werner — all but sealed it with 2:05 left. The Ordway Music Theater gets a dose of mariachi music for Minnesota Opera’s production of “Cruzar La Cara De La Luna” (To Cross the Face of the Moon). Infusing the folk-derived Mexican musical genre into an opera format, the work speaks to the Mexican immigration experience as well as the enduring legacies of families who have made the United States their home over multiple generations.Relaying the journey of a family split apart by two countries and tragic fate, the piece is colored — metaphorically and in its scenic and costume design by Arnulfo Maldonado — with the hues of a monarch butterfly. The monarch serves as a key image in the opening song, “En Frágiles Alas,” (On Fragile Wings) first sung softly by Mark performed by Efraín Solís at the bed of his ailing father, as he plays the guitar. The song is repeated throughout the story, evoking the migratory cycles of the monarch butterfly and their tremendous journeys between Mexico and the United States across generations. The Ho...Denver sets record high temperature after hitting nearly 80 degrees Sunday
